The following is a portion of Barb McPherson’s Keynote Address given at the 114th International Conference of Women of the Moose in Oklahoma City (2026).
During the February Grand Council meeting, the Grand Council recommended and the Moose International Board of Directors approved the following changes to the Women of the Moose General Laws.
Sec. 8 – relates to the name of a Chapter and the only way they can dissolve. The last sentence of the paragraph will now read “A chapter can voluntarily dissolve by a majority vote of the active members present at a meeting, under the authority of an authorized Official Visitor.” Too many chapters think they can just close by themselves. There is indeed a process that needs to happen in accordance with the IRS.
Sec. 86 paragraph h. – relates to the Nominating Committee – and what happens in the event of a tie when voting on nominees. The last sentence of that paragraph has been changed to read “In the event of a tie, the nominee is not placed on the slate. The nominee may resubmit her name at the next Nominating Committee meeting.”
Sec. 94 paragraph c. relates to the Officers earning honors and Training. This section will now read “Training for Elected Officers (including the Junior Past Regent), as outlined in a Moose International policy from the Women of the Moose Headquarters must be completed within 60-days of taking office. Training is valid for three (3) years. Anyone who intends to hold office after her training dates have “expired” must take the appropriate training again. Specifically, should the officer’s training expire while holding office, she may finish out the term without retraining, but training must be retaken if she plans to hold office during the next fiscal year.”
These changes become effective August 1st so this will give the Officers who need training time to attend prior to the conclusion of training on October 31st. Anyone who has already attended training since February 1st has been given credit.
This does not supersede the need to attend training to earn the Golden Gavel, College of Regents or Star degree during the year the member is attempting to qualify for their honor.
