‘Gearheads’ Unite with Moose to Help AId Children in Need

From left, Treasurer Keith James and President Bryan Skinner presented a $500 check to the Batavia, IL Lodge 682/Chapter 722 Moose Riders Motorcycle Activity Club. Gladly accepting the check is President Paul Staples, who was joined by Secretary Cherie Staples and Treasurer Beth Richtsteig.
> The Kane County Gearhead Classic Car Club, and Moose members teamed up for the South Elgin, Il Riverfest Express during the annual “Special Night For Special Kids” on Aug.16. During the event, the clubs handed out more than 400 Tommy Moose dolls donated by northern Illinois area Moose Lodges to special needs children and young adults from Little Angels, Little City and Easter Seals centers. The ‘Gearheads’ also helped out the children at Mooseheart Child City & School during the event.

> Bellingham, WA, Lodge 493/Chapter 277 representatives presented 24 Tommy Moose dolls to the Whatcom County Sheriff's Department last April. Among those in attendance were (from left) Senior Regent Dee Pennington, Washington/Northern Idaho Moose Association President Clint Greeley and Bellingham Lodge Governor Paul Tice Jr. The stuffed Moose were so well-distributed by the Sheriff’s Department that they ran out, and requested a second batch of Tommy Moose!

> Albuquerque, NM Lodge 1517/Chapter 1266 has donated 312 Tommy Moose stuffed toys to local police and fire departments and hospitals. The donations even spurred the Mayor of Albuquerque to proclaim Aug. 6, 2006 as Tommy Moose Day! Governor Robert Garcia (left) waits to hand a local police officer more Tommy Moose.

| Enthusiastic Walkers from Lompoc, CA Lodge 1036/Chapter 1413 Net $25,000 for MS Research
> Members of Lompoc, CA Lodge 1036/Chapter 1413 participated in the Multiple Sclerosis walk for the second straight summer. More than 125 walkers from the Lodge participated in the event, raising $25,000 for MS research. The annual MS walk continues to gain momentum and Lodge officials hope to raise even more money next year.

> Cub Scout Troop 308, sponsored by East Mesa, AZ Lodge 2082/Chapter 1853 held its annual Pinewood Derby races at the Lodge, where the Scouts (along with a few elated fans) proudly displayed their cars and awards. The Lodge and Chapter report that they are very supportive of the troop, and help them in any way possible, including allowing the use of the building as a meeting place.

| Mogadore, OH Moose Donate Toward Finding a Cure for Rare Disease Inflicting Children
> Mogadore, OH, Lodge 1082/Chapter 647 donated $1,000 toward the Mitochondrial Disease Foundation’s annual Cleveland-area walkathon aimed to combat the disease. The disease affects brain, nerves, heart, liver, kidneys and other systemic body functions. Lodge 1082 members (from left) Bob Jenior, Dan Hudkins, Charlie Hafner, Ted Neff, Garry Nellis, Buzz Krager, Keith Fraser (far right) and Governor Paul Howiler presented the check to Karen Ricci, whose son Joey suffers from the disease. Finding a cure for the disease is dear to Howiler’s heart also, as his own grandson was also diagnosed with it last year.

> Port Charlotte, FL Lodge 2121/Chapter 1619 purchased food from local merchants valued at more than $5,000--then distributed the food to the needy in Charlotte County. The purchases included 4,000 pounds of frozen chicken, canned vegetables, fresh vegetables, bread and numerous other items.

> Thirteen-year-old Stacey Hooper (center) of Trafalgar Middle School received two checks totaling $2,800 toward her expenses at a summer academic program at the University of Kansas. The program, called TIP (Talent Identification Program) is sponsored by Duke University and was developed to identify gifted students. Presenting the checks are Dennis F. Hrzenak, Governor of Ft. Myers, FL Lodge 1899 and Betsy McNeil, Senior Regent of the Women of the Moose Chapter 1020.
