The Director General:

Using Member Benefits Saves You Money--
Many Times Over

> All of us purchase various types of insurance coverage and telephone service (though sometimes we may consider doing so a necessary evil!). Nearly all of us stay in a hotel or motel at least once over the course of a year. Most of us subscribe to at least a few magazines, and rent a video or DVD at least occasionally.

Did you know that in many cases, if you make just one or two of those purchases through a Moose Member Benefits provider, in just minutes you can save an amount much more than the cost of your annual Moose dues?

By the turn of this new century, we frankly realized that the needs of Moose members--the reasons why they were joining our fraternity--had long since become very different from the reasons that members joined in the first half of the 20th century.

While Mooseheart Child City & School certainly remains available for the children and teens of members if a Moose family suffers the loss of a breadwinner or severe hardship that makes maintaining a secure household difficult . . .well, we know that most young parents now have insurance policies in place to safeguard against such calamities. So what began strictly as a form of fraternal insurance benefiting the sons and daughters of deceased Moose fathers has evolved over the decades into a proud and noble service that we offer to families in need all across North America.

Likewise, we know that most men and women of the Moose will not necessarily choose the services of our Moosehaven retirement community in Florida (or at least they don’t join the fraternity believing that they will!). So beginning in 2000, we decided that we should research, and ultimately contract with, vendors and service providers who could offer our more than 1.2 million men and women, as well as potential members, a new set of attractive reasons to become--and remain--Moose members. Ever since then, in every issue of Moose Magazine and on any given day in the Members Only section of www.mooseintl.org, you’ve had the opportunity to view the current array of Moose Member Benefits that our ongoing Moose International staff committee has assembled for you, along with simple instructions on how to take advantage of them.

The way our Member Benefits program works is pretty simple: Big numbers equal big bargaining power. Companies looking to sell products and services to customers who generally fit the demographic profile of our membership base are willing to offer significant price breaks if they can have marketing access to our 1.2 million members, whether it’s through our Magazine, our website or via direct-mail.

But more than that, many of these companies are willing to give back to the Moose organization a financial cut for the privilege of doing business with us. This means, of course, funding that is available for the operation of Mooseheart, Moosehaven and Moose International without having to ask you, our members, to write the check! We have, over the last seven years, been able to postpone asking our Lodges, Chapters and Moose Legion for funding increases because of these premiums from Member Benefits providers. It’s truly a great arrangement all around--but only if you take advantage of them.

The research and results of several of our Member Benefits companies show that many, many more members could take advantage of these very competitively priced offers than those who actually do so. In the language of negotiation, Moose members are leaving a lot of money on the table. Meaning that your fraternity doesn’t benefit as much as it potentially could, either.

So do yourself a favor: Take a good look at the benefits available to you, and give one or two a try--that’s all we ask!

When you use one of our array of benefits, you not only give your household budget a break--in most cases you also help us to care for kids and seniors in need.
