More Storm Aftermath: Moose Aid Communities, Each Other

Bill Bradley, Moose International Assistant Regional Manager for Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Oklahoma and Texas, took a road trip last winter to look at Hurricane Katrina’s damage to Lodges and what is being done to help them. Bradley saw devastation to Lodges such as Hattiesburg, MS Lodge 1804 which suffered extensive wind damage.

Bradley said he was overwhelmed to see the generous fraternal spirit of our members. For instance, Laurel, MS Lodge 1916 was offering RV spots and hookups where displaced members and cleanup workers could set up trailers for living areas.

Port Charlotte, FL Lodge 2121 purchased and distributed over $5,000 worth of food to the needy in Charlotte County in February. Included in the products distributed was 4,000 pounds of frozen chicken, canned vegetables, fresh vegetables, bread and numerous other items, all bought from local merchants.

Glendale, CA Lodge 641/Chapter 132 held a potluck dinner and silent auction for Operation USA, a hurricane-relief organization which supplies medical necessities to victims. The effort raised over $3,000. Here, College of Regents member Louise Rosati (left) and her daughter Kim staffed the dessert table.

| Moose and Scouting Events Make a Perfect Partnership for Newton, IA Lodge 923/Chapter 647

Newton, IA Lodge 923/Chapter 647
> Newton, IA Lodge 923/Chapter 647 hosted a Cub Scout Pinewood Derby event in January for several local Cub Scout Packs. Pinewood Derby races are a time-honored hallmark of Cub Scouting, when boys and parents try their hand at creating the fastest toy race car from a standard-sized block of pine--then find out, of an evening or afternoon, how it matches up against the creations engineered by their neighbors and friends.

> Woodward, OK Chapter 2121 was among numerous Women of the Moose Chapters across the continent who participated in The Heart Truth/Red Dress Day, a day of women’s heart-health awareness and special Chapter enrollments in honor of Grand Chancellor Emeritus Tonie Ewoldt--who suffered a heart attack at age 44 in 1992. Co-workers wore red at meetings to signify the day as a “red alert” for the No. 1 killer of women.

At left are Jr. Regent Jean Smith and Senior Regent Lee Ann Thomas with an informative display.
