Cultural Awareness Week at Mooseheart, Feb. 17-20, 2004
| > No Cultural Awareness Weekan annual February event at Mooseheartwould be complete without authentic ethnic foods; this year was no exception. Students lined up for goodies such as eggplant cutlets and Mediterranean-style chicken. Tasty primavera orzo and the Greek dessert baklava were also available. |

High School geography instructor Aidas Skruodys dressed in traditional headgear of the region during a Middle East breakout session where he explained cultures and traditions in this turbulent region of the world.
Members of the West Aurora (IL) High School Step Team had everyone clapping their hands during a foot-stomping assembly to close off the weeks events. Even the youngest children got into the spirit!
3 Mooseheart Students Prepare for a 14th Yellowstone Summer
> It will be an unforgettable summer for three Mooseheart students as the Child City sends them as representatives for the 14th straight year to participate in the Youth Conservation Corps at Yellowstone National Park.
Jasmine Barnes (Indianapolis Lodge 17), Nick Grasty (Hillsborough, NC Lodge 1893) and Andrew May (Aurora, IL Lodge 400) will join about 30 other high-school age students from June 12 to Aug. 8, in the 2 million acres of Americas premier national park, in northwest Wyoming. |

Students will work, under adult supervision, on such projects as trail rehabilitation, footbridge construction, and log cabin restoration. Mooseheart students apply for the trip and and are chosen by Superintendent/Principal Gary Urwiler.
The Moose fraternity has underwritten the $135,000 annual cost of this National Park Service program since Yellowstones wildfires in 1988. Since 1990, YCC has received no funding from the federal budget.
New Office Depot Store Proves to be Generous Neighbor

> Office Depot, one of the worlds largest retailers of office products, showed its commitment to the Mooseheart community as it held a grand opening in February in neighboring Batavia, IL. From left, store managers Keri Ann Bickle and Ron Miller help Mooseheart Director Scott Hart hold up a representative check for a $500 in-kind donation to Mooseheart School. Hart made a favorable impression on community business and civic leaders as he thanked Office Depot officials for their generous donation.
