Sweetman’s Demonstrators Show Enthusiastic Approval for Nomination

Ronald L. Sweetman (above), of New Castle, DE Lodge 1578, was grinning ear to ear Saturday afternoon while viewing throngs of demonstrating supporters from the Maryland/Delaware/DC Moose Association as his name was placed in nomination for the office of Supreme Governor. Fran Bolling, Senior Regent of Edgemere, MD Chapter 1146, had the delegates laughing as she made her entrance costumed as a “Maryland crab” to promote Sweetman’s Sweetman’s Chesapeake Bay home region.

| Airey Receives Conferral as Past Supreme Governor
> Director of Marketing & Membership Development William B. Airey (left) received the fraternity’s ultimate compliment for his 41 years of service to the Moose fraternity Saturday afternoon, when Director General Ross presented him with a medallion and plaque conferring him with the honor of Past Supreme Governor of the Order, following the Convention’s unanimous acclamation. Airey began his service to the Moose in 1964, joining Clymer, PA Lodge 670 as Lodge Secretary. In 1974 he became charter Governor and a Life Member of Whitehall, OH Lodge 1245. Airey is in the 400 Division of the Moose 25 Club; he received the Pilgrim Degree of Merit in 1977. He came to Moose headquarters in 1983 as assistant to late Director of Membership Jay Stoehr. A visibly-moved Airey said it had been a privilege to learn under early mentors such as Stoehr and the late Directors General Paul P. Schmitz and Herbert Heilman--and to meet many good-hearted men of the fraternity, whom he termed “more qualified than I am” to receive the honor. “I didn’t expect it; I don’t believe I deserve it. I just believe I have been given the greatest honor one can be given in a lifetime,” Airey said. “The only thing I ask is you never stop serving your brothers, co-workers, youngsters at Mooseheart, seniors at Moosehaven and the people in your community you call neighbors.”
