At Moosehaven:

Stevens Outlines
‘Pay-As-You-Go’ Retirement Options, Soon To Be Available at Moosehaven

> Sunday afternoon’s Joint General Session report on Moosehaven from Executive Director Faye Stevens featured an announcement of great interest for potential Moosehaven residents--There will soon be much-broadened financial options to retire at the Moose fraternity’s 65-acre City of Contentment in Orange Park, FL.

Up to now, applying for Moosehaven service was only open to qualifying members willing to turn over all present and future assets to Moosehaven, and in return receiving a beautiful place to live and continuous care for the rest of his/her life. But soon, Stevens announced, in addition to the present contract Moosehaven will be offering two “Pay-As-You-Go” options:

Option One would require an entrance fee and monthly payments for the duration of a resident’s stay, which would begin with complete independent living (including maintaining one’s own car) in a to-be-renovated “townhouse” building, Stevens said. This would be followed, if/when needed, by residential living on campus (which would require relinquishing the car--but would involve prepared meals as well as laundry and maid service). “As health declines the resident would move to the assisted living facility and then on to skilled nursing when needed,” Stevens said.

Option Two would also require an entrance fee with monthly payments for the duration of a resident’s stay, Stevens said. However, the new resident would go immediately to campus living in a residence hall with all the perks other residents now receive (prepared meals, maid service, etc.), Stevens reported.

“The entrance fee assures lifetime accommodations in an appropriate residential environment, use of the common facilities, and availability of the services and programs of Moosehaven,” she said.

The monthly fee is needed to help in the costs for services, programs, staffing, operations and depreciation. This monthly fee is still less than similar operations, Stevens stressed.

She also noted that the eligibility requirements for all contract options would remain the same: A potential resident must be a member of the Loyal Order of Moose or Women of the Moose for 15 years with no break in membership, and be 65 years of age prior to making application. A pre-entrance physical examination would also be required for proper placement.

“We want to assure all Moose members that only 25% of resident population will be offered the optional Pay-As-You-Go contracts; 75% will remain on the traditional contract, so all qualified members will continue to enjoy the benefits of Moosehaven,” Stevens added.

“Moosehaven offers a place to live life; not a place to grow old,” Stevens said. “We are here to keep our senior Moose members active and motivated, and be able to assist them when assistance is needed. Thank you for all your continued support of Moosehaven.”
