The Lodge of the Year is one of the eight Moose International Shining Star categories. Each Regional Manager nominates from one to four Lodges within each of their Associations, dependent upon the total number of Lodges in the Association.

Nominated Lodges are evaluated by Moose International staff and ranked on numerous criteria, including membership growth, timeliness of reporting, representation at training sessions, Association meetings and the International Moose Convention, and participation in fraternal programs. The top five Lodges become nominees for the Shining Star Lodge of the Year. The top Lodge receives the Shining Star Award, which is announced during each year's International Moose Convention.
